"I love you"
I whisper it to the reflection in the mirror pretending it is you
I pick up my tiny dog's ear and softly slip it in
I go and plant it about the house,
Saying it to the walls and stairs and the picture of my Great Aunt on the mantle
And finally in the dark
I blow it into the soft seashell of your ear
And you catch it like a fallen star
This phrase that I have been practicing all day
This secret between us that hovers in the twilight and looks down upon us like one
of Michelangelo's angels
And I have said it so much that even now the rain falling on the roof seems to
"I love you."
